Knit and Natter School Project

The purpose of Knit and Natter School project is to support children to learn about getting involved in the development of their community and helping people who are in need, using their skills and talents, and learning from adults how to improve their wellbeing and the wider community.

This project was the initiative of the ladies from Kearsley Knit and Natter Precious Gems’ project. Those ladies had knitting skills, but before joining Knit and Natter project, they were not using that skill very much. After joining Knit and Natter they saw how their knitting skill benefited them and their community, they didn’t want that skill to be lost; They wanted to make sure that it was passed on to future generations. With support of Precious Gems, they started the Knit and Natter School project in a nearby school (Saint Stephen school) so that they can teach kids how to knit items for themselves and their loved ones but also for people who are in need. Children at Saint Stephen School enjoy learning how to knit. They made some little squares and joined them together and made court blankets and donated them to Bolton Hospital’s intensive baby care unit. They are very proud of using their knitting skills to help others who are in need.

Children at Knit and Natter school project, have a chance to speak to professionals about their careers and what those careers entail. This motivates them to have a focus for the future and to have a clear idea of what career to follow in future.
